FRE/D addresses the problem of supervisory authorities in many countries that collect large amounts of financial data but lack flexible reporting and analysis tools. FRE/D has been specifically designed to meet the needs of financial supervisory agencies such as banking supervisors, insurance boards, etc. that collect detailed financial reports on a periodic basis.

Methods for analyzing the financial condition of an institution, a group of institutions, or a whole financial/economic sector, such as rating systems, soundness indicators, prudential indicators, stress tests, etc. rely on the use of electronic spreadsheets such as Excel. These are familiar tools to all financial analysts yet their proper utilization is heavily dependent on the varying technical and organizational skills of the analysts.

Besides the obvious security and efficiency concerns, keeping data in a multitude of spreadsheets throughout the organization's desktops makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the supervisors to perform the more sophisticated analysis that require the transformation, comparison and aggregation of different data items over different periods and groupings.

Enter FRE/D v2 .0

Against this background, Information Technology Consultants Llc (itc) , in association with supervision experts and consultants from international financial organizations, has developed FRE/D, a specialized and powerful tool designed for and by supervisors. FRE/D can capture data in all common formats, including Excel. Once data is stored in the database at the lowest level of detail, FRE/D can extract it and aggregate it according to different criteria to produce detailed or aggregated reports. FRE/D greatly facilitates risk management operations and easily produces financial sector soundness indicators.

Reports can be in the form of plain tables or can be richly formatted with graphics, logos, colors, fonts, etc. The supervising authorities have total flexibility over the design of input returns and output reports. Reports can be predefined or generated on demand on any and all of the data elements captured, on each institution, peer group or the whole sector, over any period of time, producing key financial ratios and indicators that can then be exported to other specialized tools for further analysis and graphical representation and published on the web.

The newly introduced web-based version, FRE/D v2.0, built entirely on Microsoft .NET technology, is available as a subscription service or as a self-managed installation. FRE/D v2.0 incorporates and improves upon the best features of our Windows based version, FRE/D v1.0
